about me

Michael has established his reputation as a primarily live performer, interested primarily in improvised music. He makes a living as a pianist performing locally and overseas within various ensembles.

Michael enjoys a diverse and dynamic performance schedule. His recent callings have included a world cruise contract and before this developing his improvisational skills through small jazz and contemporary ensembles. Recently he has been interested in improvisational thematic compositions for solo piano. In addition to the Mike Levi Jazz Trio, Latin ensembles and performances with many Melbourne vocalists, he is always interested in overseas work and opportunities to travel, listen and perform with other musicians from around the world. Trips to China, Nepal, Tibet and more recently Brazil, Morocco and Spain have provided fantastic first hand musical inspiration.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Michael commenced piano and drum set lessons when he was 14. Studying music with teachers from both the classical and jazz idioms, through Monash University and Box Hill Institute of Tafe, Michael appreciates honest, heartfelt, genuine and soulful music.

"There are so many musical possibilities, so many influences, so many new sounds to explore!"
